Helensvale Hawks Premiers at "Beachmere Sands Premier League QLD Champions" winning team after they collected the trophy last weekend

World Bowls Selections Mark Casey, Nathan Rice and Lynsey Armitage selected in Australian team

Congratulations to Mark Casey, Nathan Rice & Lynsey Armitage who have been selected to represent Australia at the World Bowls to be held in Christchurch New Zealand in January. Mark will skip the triples and fours, Nathan will skip the pairs and third in the fours, and Lynsey will play lead in the pairs and fours.

Georgia White invited to World Ladies Matchplay

Georgia White must also be congratulated for being invited to play in the World Ladies Matchplay to be held in England during January 2008. Georgia gained an invitation to this event after her good performance in the Professional Bowls Association qualifying events held earlier this year.

Inaugural Helensvale Quality Meats National Club 5-a-Side Challenge a great success

The Inaugural Helensvale Quality Meats National Club 5-a-Side event was a great success during September with eighteen clubs from across Australia accepting invitations.

This event was very successful for our club considering it was the first time an event like this has been staged in Australia. The amount of positive remarks from players, clubs and spectators was remarkable and all clubs were extremely keen to be involved again next year.

The Calcutta on the Monday night preceding the event was a huge success by drawing many of the players and spectators together prior to the event; this added another interest to the already popular event.

Thanks must go to Bevan Odewahn for helping make this night a success. The men who formed the tournament committee must be congratulated for ensuring the event ran smoothly, club volunteers must be thanked for marking, umpiring and helping the tournament committee and green staff.

Our green staff did a wonderful job in preparing the greens and surrounds while also playing in the event. Club Management and Staff all worked well to make sure the event ran smoothly and all players and supporters where looked after.

Annual $3000 Men's Two Day Pairs

Showcase Enterprises sponsored our annual $3,000 men’s two day pairs which was held at the end of September. Larry Pointon and I were lucky enough to win this event with Anthony Kiepe and John Lawton finishing second.

Club Helensvale entering both Premier League and Bowls Super Challenge teams in 2008

Our club has entered both Premier League and Bowls Super Challenge teams for the 2008 season. This will consist of Premier League A Grade and Reserve Grade, Bowls Super Challenge Silver and Bronze divisions. This will cater for more bowlers in our club to be involved in competitive games against other clubs in South East QLD.

The only condition set by Bowls Super Challenge is that any player who plays in Premier League cannot play Bowls Super Challenge in that same year. A nomination sheet is now in the bowls room for any members (male and female) who wish to nominate for either competition to represent our club.
